This page lists the expected high-level roadmap for Mountaincore during Early Access. It is not absolutely final – entries *might* move around and likely some things will get added to it, but as of today this is the current plan to take the current version of the game up the 1.0 release.
Steel & Alloys – A simple entry to start with, there’s currently no way to produce steel in-game, so we’ll take this opportunity to add other, more complicated metal production recipes to produce alloys and also aim to make use of all the ores in game that are not currently used (as they were added as part of a Kickstarter reward).
Trade Goods – to encourage the player to produce items to sell for a profit, we’ll add a bunch of items that initially are only decorative but can be sold for a good value to the merchants. Some of these items will have a use later in development when certain members of your population may request some of them to be produced.
Lighting and visibility update – Currently everything is just a bit too dark and dim under the mountain. At a minimum this will add wall-mounted light sources to illuminate the more civilized parts of your underground empire.
Food Supplies Management – A management screen to give more controls to the player around which food is produced and how, and to act as a guide to current food supplies and an estimate of how long it will last.
Healthcare – There’s currently no way to care for your injured settlers. This will add the ability to heal and recover from all but the most critical wounds.
Prestige Progression System – This will be the first truly major update to the game, adding “Prestige” as a value to indicate how well the settlement has grown, that will also act as a currency to unlock and purchase further rewards. One major aspect of this is that you will start to attract nobles to your settlement, who will not work, but will add to the overall prestige.
Traps & Mechanisms – Keep those pesky raiders from stealing your supplies with well placed traps and other mechanical constructions to take care of them, in an automated way!
Elves – Ancient rivals of the dwarves. You can trade with them, but cut down too many trees and the relationship will become hostile.
Dungeon Explorations – Control a squad of adventurers as they explore and battle through hostile locations for special loot and resources. Take down the biggest foes for monstrous crafting materials to make even greater weapons and equipment.
Kingdom Progression System – This progression system will build upon the idea that the settlement is a newly formed outpost of an existing kingdom. Fulfil production and export quotas to keep your overlords happy, or strike out for independence and a kingdom of your own!
Design a Settler Reward – A long overdue Kickstarter reward for our early backers to design a settler to show up in other players’ games (which you will be able to opt out of using). There is also the plan that all players can design an avatar which will be used in more advanced Twitch integration.
Domesticated Animals & Pets – There’s no better way for a settler to reduce their stress levels than spending some quality time with a beloved pet.
Stretch Goals
Mountaincore has not been a commercial success so far, and it will likely never make a profit. If that changes however, there are several big features we’d love to add to the game if we end up with the budget to allow us to do so:
Explore other Players’ Settlements – An extension to Dungeon Explorations, the maps that you explore could end up being a copy of another player’s settlement, either with their population guarding it, or perhaps it fell to invasion and an enemy force is now in your way. This feature will allow players to show off their creations
Play as Orcs and Humans – We’d love to add different modes to play with significantly different gameplay mechanics. Humans would be a capitalistic society where every worker demands payment for their work and the challenge is in setting up a true economy. Orcs are quick to multiply and also quick to fight with one another, and the challenge is in dealing with a potentially high population turnover.
Other Biomes – A variety of maps to play on rather than the current temperate woodland type of map. Can you survive in a blistering desert or a freezing glacier?
Underground Variety Update – Discover flows of lava, deep chasms in the earth, and underground pools and rivers with this expansion to the underground areas of the game.
Magic & Runecrafting – Take your weapons and armour to a whole new level by inscribing magical runes, as long as you have the right materials and knowledge!
Mythical Beasts – Randomly generated weird and wonderful monsters to fight for fame and fortune.
Something Missing?
Is there something you really feel should be in the game but is not listed above? Mountaincore is designed to be as moddable as possible, and we’d love to see mods start to fill out areas that some people think are lacking. Get started with the Modding guide on the wiki and join the #modding channel on the Mountaincore Discord server. Even if something isn’t possible to add as a mod today, let us know what you’d like to do and we’ll very likely work towards making it possible.
